Better Late Than Never

One would think that with nursing school behind me that I would have plenty of spare time to blog more often, right?

Wrong....

I honestly can't tell you why I haven't blogged lately. I have thought about making a post many times but feel like there isn't much to blog about. How is it that life got less interesting after school? Just doesn't seem right to me. But I'm sure there have been plenty of things happening in the lives of the DeWitte's so it's time to update.

Therefore, I'm not really quite sure what direction this post will take, but it too much time has passed without a post, so here we go....better late than never. :)

As you know, I started working full time as of September 15th. Even though I absolutely love my job and feel very blessed to start out my nursing career in Labor and Delivery, it has been an adjustment for Wes and I.

I don't think I realized how much of (yet another) transitional period this would be for us. Our first transitional period was with me starting school and Wes starting his new job at the post office. Then just a few months later, it was the transition of marriage (which I haven't blogged much about and I should because we have grown so much as a couple since we said "I do") and just when we thought we were getting comfortable in our new lives together...another transition....new full time job for me and Wes working full time at the studio.

Without getting into all the hairy details, I will just say that we are having to remind each other to put our faith and trust in God and learn to lean on Him each and every day. Realizing and truly believing that it is no accident that we are at this stage of our lives. God has our lives planned and we have to continue to walk in faith, even in the times when life doesn't seem to make sense. God has continued to bless us and has revealed His mighty love and power in our lives.

By reflecting back on the many times that God has brought favor over us, we are able to stay strong in Lord and cast all our cares on Him. It is not always easy to do and requires a daily renewal of our minds to push through the challenging times and praise God for what He has done and has yet to do.

Our God is faithful, there is no doubt about it. God never promised us an easy life as Christians, but He did promise a life full of abundance and hope, if we just believe, have faith, cast all our burdens on Him, and love and trust Him to provide a wonderful future.

We will continue to grow together in Christ and challenge each other in our relationship with Him. This scripture has been up on our fridge for the past few months and has been an encouragement to us during this "season" of life. We are blessed.

Here is what is on the other side of the fridge. This is the only way I can manage to stay somewhat sane in order to keep up with bills, appointments, my schedule, Wes' schedule....No wonder I haven't sat down to blog, and we don't even have kids yet!

But the scripture right next to the busy calendar helps keep life in perspective and realize that we are being taken care of by a wonderful, heavenly Father who will continue to bless us and provide.

As I sat down to blog this morning, I pulled out my camera hoping to find tons of pictures to share with you and remind me of what has been going on lately.

And it appears that I have gotten really bad about taking pictures again. The only pictures I have taken since my last post are of me and my new Bachelor's degree and official RN licence!

Which, don't get me wrong, I am VERY excited about these! It crazy how you go to school, spends lot of money, time, energy....all for this moment....a piece of paper!! But those papers mean everything. Those papers are all the hard work and determination in one tiny sheet.
Whew...Sigh of relief....I did it!! It's done!! It takes that small piece of paper to make it actually real. I worked hard for that peice of paper!

Bachelor's of Science in Nursing

Licensed by the Oklahoma Board of Nursing: Registered Nurse!!

I'm now an alumni divided....well sort of...I will always stay true to my FIRST alma mater, O-S-U!

The only other pictures I could find were on my phone and who would you guess they're of? Lexi! She has been the sweetest dog lately. Her puppy stage is slowing down and she really is becoming a fun, (slightly) calmer dog.

She loves to take naps with us on Sundays. Everyone knows that Sunday afternoons are always the perfect nap days. It was a struggle when she was younger to get her to be still and lay down with us. But I think she is finally learning to look forward to those Sunday naps too. Sometimes I think she sleeps better than we do!

She always has to be close to one of us. Sometimes strangely close. :)

She was in desperate need of a haircut when I took this picture.
The crazy mohawk proves that to be true. haha

And she eventually did get a haircut and could finally see again. :) Pretty girl.

I worked the past three days and am pretty excited about staying home all day today. Wes is out at the studio recording all day, so that leaves just me and Lexi to relax.

Plans are to catch up on my shows from the week on the DVR, pick up the house, maybe do some laundry, watch OSU beat Texas, possibly a nap, and read my Nook. Needless to say, this is where you will find me.

Sounds pretty intense doesn't it? It couldn't sound better!! Until next time....

Praise God!

Now unto to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than ALL we can ask or imagine, according to HIS power that is at work within us.
  Ephesians 3:20

So much to thank God for in this post!

Last week, I applied for an RN position at Yukon Integris in Labor and Delivery, where I did my Leadership. Getting to this point, however, wasn't as easy as it sounds.

Back up a few weeks...We were told back before Leadership began that the director was intending to hire us once Leadership was over. Well, here it was the second week of August, Leadership has been finished since July 11th, graduation is done, and we hadn't heard a single word. I was sending multiple emails just trying to get some answers.

Even out of desperation in one of the emails to the director, I wrote, "I am just really starting to get nervous because I want to have a job once I pass boards".

Still didn't get a response, even after that... My wonderful husband kept reminding to to be patient and that God will work everything out.

Patience...why is that word SO hard to live out??

After waiting two weeks (talk about patience!), I get a response from the director saying she was opening up two "new grad" positions and to let her know once I had applied. I applied last Thursday and that same day received an email saying my application was being moved onto the next step and sent to the manager for screening. Yes!!! Progress!!! Finally!!

Fast forward to this past Monday.....

Wes and I were walking into Target and he says to me, "Gosh, when are you going to be able to start working??" (And he is the one telling me to be patient!) :)

I calmly said, "Well, I am just waiting on a call to get an interview scheduled with Integris and of course I still have to take boards and I haven't gotten my "authorization to test" letter yet so still waiting on that too. So nothing can happen until those two things come through."

I'm not even kidding you when I tell you this but we were not inside Target for longer than 10 minutes when my phone beeps saying I have an email. I look at my phone and.....there's my "authorization to test" letter telling me I can schedule my NCLEX.

Already I am thinking....wow...how ironic is that? We were just saying that needed to happen and wa la! There is it! Crazy....

I barely had time to put my phone back up in my purse when it started ringing...I didn't recognize the number but answered it anyway. And who was it???

Human Resources with Integris wanting to schedule an interview!!!

I kid you not...that was exactly how it happened. Wow! There's no way to deny it...that was a God thing. It's amazing that we don't even have to stop and pray for the things we desire and/or need but God still hears us and knows our heart and He will answer. Many people think that if we don't pray for what we need, then God won't know what we need.

But God's Word says:

Psalm 20:3- "May He grant your heart's desires and make all your plans succeed."

Psalm 37:4,5- "Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you your heart's desires. Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust Him, and He will hep you."

God wants to give you the desires of your heart. He knows your heart without you having to say a single word. All he asks is that you seek Him in all you do and put your trust and faith in Him. It is then that He will begin to set things in motion before you even have a chance to ask.

My interview was Tuesday morning and as of yesterday afternoon, I HAVE A JOB! Praise God!!!

I want to share this worship song with you. This is a new worship song that we have been singing at church lately. I noticed my heart singing these lyrics after all the wonderful things that God has done in my life this week.

This is the prayer of my heart. That I will always remain confident in Christ because of the things He has done for me. I will continue to set my hope on Him for I know He holds my future and has wonderful plans for my life. God, you are SO good and SO faithful! I thank you today for the many blessings you have given me.

May this song be an encouragement to you and you will find strength and confidence in these words.

A New Chapter...

Here I am again, apologizing for my lack of blogging lately. I had started an entry on June 16th but it never seemed to get finished. So I've decided I am going to have to nix the idea on trying to get caught up on the last two months of happenings and just jump right back into it with what is going on now.

Not really a lot of exciting, blog worthy things have been going on the past two months anyway. In my last official post I had just started my Leadership and now it is DONE! And not only is Leadership over, but my entire nursing school career will be over in 3 short days. Can you believe it?!? I sure can't!! Graduation is July 30th but all assignments are done and grades are turned in by next week. Time has definitely flown by and therefore it is time to start a new chapter in our lives.

My Leadership experience was so great! I could not have asked for a better preceptor, awesome night shift staff, and overall good facility to be at. No official job offer yet but I hope to have that "in the works" within the next few weeks as final grades are posted and I am an official graduate. I still absolutely love Labor and Delivery and could not picture myself in any other hospital setting. I will just continue to put all my faith and trust in God knowing that He has the perfect job lined up for me. No need to worry when He is working on my behalf.

Other big news in the DeWitte household is related to Wes's job. His contract is up with the Post Office at the end of this month and we have made a big decision. Wes is no longer going to be working for the Post Office and is choosing to follow God's leadership in his life by pursuing a career as a full time Recording Engineer.

God has really been working in Wes's life lately and he feels lead to do what he knows God has called him to do. This decision has not come easy and is the result of countless prayers and sermons all giving confirmation that this is the right decision.

I will most likely not be starting work until September which means we will be relying on Wes's income for one more month until I am able to bring in a paycheck. To most people, this decision may seem crazy. But we are placing our future in the hands of God knowing He will guide us, protect us, and prosper us until the very end. We feel very strongly that this is a decision rooted in the Word of God and therefore we will stand strong in our faith and put all our trust in Him.

If you are a praying person, we would appreciate your prayers through this transitional stage in our lives. If it was not for the prayers and support of our friends and family throughout this past year, things might not have turned out as wonderful as they have. God has had and will continue to have favor over our lives and we are so grateful.

Big changes with amazing possibilities for our life are coming soon. I am excited to see this next chapter unfold. With God as our source, we will have a life full of happiness and hope.

I will finish up this post with some pictures from the last couple of weeks, maybe even some taken a few months ago. This will be my way of getting everyone up to date with what we have been up to. With school coming to a close, I hope that means plenty of time for blogging. :) The end is in sight!

March of Dimes Walk: May 7, 2011: Nursing students got together to support one of fellow classmates who lost his newborn daughter in April. We had a great time and all for a great cause.

My bestest  nursing friend, Hollie, and I at the March of Dimes Walk. Couldn't have made it through nursing school without her!

The new driveway that finally got finished in May. So nice to park more than one car in the driveway. Not to mention it did wonders for the curb appeal of our house.

One more of the new driveway.

Our front porch got somewhat of a new look too. New patio furniture and flowers. We would like to tile the porch in the future, but for now, it looks just fine.

My mom and I at a Mother's Day banquet at Wes's grandma's church. I know everyone says this, but I DO have the best Mom in the world. I am very blessed.

I am also blessed with wonderful in-laws. Here is Wes's grandma and mom at the Mother's Day Banquet.

Wes and Dave's 26th birthday was May 24th. I had to make my homemade carrot cake for them since they love carrot cake. The baking process went much faster the second time around. :)

The birthday boy's on their birthday. Love these two!!

Wes and I on his birthday. I am one lucky girl!

No blog post is complete without a few pictures of Lexi. :)

She is already needing another haircut. I think her hair grows faster than mine!

A look outside our backyard after yet another hailstorm came through the Village on June 14th. Both cars got damaged pretty good and will need to be repaired. Ugh.. Ready to have a garage!

Wes and I went to the Myriad Gardens on July 4th. It was their grand opening after doing renovations so we thought it would be fun to go to. It was pretty but it was SO hot! Wes looks a little bit Chinese in this picture since the sun was bright (ok maybe I do too!) :)

footboard. So I felt like the bed would need to be in a different place once they bring it to us. Here is what the room looked like before:

And now:

I really actually like it this way.  I was hesitant because I thought it would take up too much room, but it works great.

That's all I've got for now. I'm trying to get back into the habit of taking pictures again. I think I have taken maybe 10 pictures within the last two months. So hopefully more pictures to come (and new posts of course)! :)

Spring Break Days 2 and 3

I may not have gone anywhere this week, but it really has been nice to get to do things I want to do without having school getting in the way.

Tuesday I finally hung our signature picture frames from the wedding. The pictures sat against the wall without the glass in them for the longest time. It's funny how something so simple, that doesn't take much time at all, gets put off for so long. But I am so glad they are finally up on the wall. They turned out great! I am glad we made the choice to do this instead of having your basic guest book. This is so much more memorable and can be looked at every single day.

Tuesday night we had Wes' brother, Dave, over for dinner. He also brought with him a girl that he has been hanging out with recently.

Now that Wes is a married man, Dave has been anxious to find the one for him. He sees how happy Wes is and wants to experience that for himself. After going through some interesting relationships, he may have found a good one! She is very mature and seems really genuine. Definitely great traits to have.

Wes and I had only met her once briefly, so we decided it would be nice to invite both of them over for dinner. Even though dinner was at our house, Dave wanted to cook his shrimp scampi for us. It was SO good!! And I'm pretty sure he impressed his lady friend with his cooking skills as well.

We had such a good time hanging out together that we are planning a trip to the Zoo this coming Sunday. The weather is supposed to be a lot nicer than last Sunday, so hopefully those plans will go through.

Wednesday morning started out really well by getting an e-mail from our photographer. She has been working on our wedding album and now was ready for us to take a look at what she's done. This album will be such a great way of being able to look back and remember our wedding day. Finals edits won't be complete until I "okay" all of the spreads. Each book normally contains 28 pages but ours is going to have 38! I knew we had taken  a lot of pictures but WOW! The only way to get everything in was to create more pages.

So I spent the entire morning yesterday going through each page and writing down any changes I want to make. I've decided to make a trip to Lawton and meet up with the photographer this Saturday so we can make sure all the changes I want to make are clearly understood. This way she can make the final edits and send it off for publishing!

Here is a "sneak peak" of one page of our album that she sent me a few weeks ago. Once everything is complete, I will post a link to the website to view each  page.

Pretty handsome groom I have, huh? :) I am blessed!!

By the time I finished looking at pictures it was early afternoon and the weather was gorgeous outside. So I decided to get out and enjoy the weather and start working on the flower bed.

I have been to both Home Depot and Lowe's within the past few days looking at the different types of edging to put around the flower bed but haven't made any final decisions yet. But, even though I didn't plan on doing the edging part of it, I knew I at least needed to get it cleaned out.

I didn't want Lexi to have to stay inside all day while I was outside so I found a way to stake her leash to a pole in the front yard so she could sit outside with me while I worked. Here is a picture of my little helper.

She did such a good job just hanging out. Never once did she whine or bark at all. And since she was being so good, I decided to give her a little more slack on her leash so she could be closer to me while I was digging. And she decided the digging looked pretty fun and wanted to try it out for herself. I just might have found a good way to get my plants in the ground this year!

It was SO nice to be outside in such great weather. And I got my task accomplished. Now I just have to get my mom up to OKC so we can go flower shopping and get something planted!

I had to get all the old mulch out first. So gross and so messy.

Before

After!

Doesn't look like I did much, but it looks a lot better! And ready to be planted in soon!

Look at this poor, tired face. She was wore out!

That evening we went out to Wes' parents house. Wes had a vocal session at the studio so I decided to go and visit with his mom and let her see Lexi. And also so Lexi could play with Barkley, his mom's Sheltie.

They played SO hard that within about an hour they both had collapsed and fallen asleep. Lexi had a full, busy, tiring day yesterday. But she most definitely needs it to get all that puppy energy out so I welcome the chance to wear her out. :)

It was so good to see Wes out in the studio again recording. I love watching him in his "element" and doing what he loves to do. He has such joy when he gets to be in the studio. That joy doesn't come as easy with the post office work. And in just two and a half hours, he was able to make $100. Not too bad. Pretty good money for such a short period of time.

Ahh..one day our life will be just the way we want it to be. Wes recording music full time and me working in an area of nursing I love. It's so hard to not want those things NOW. We don't want to wait. But we just have to be patient and take one day at time. We know we are in God's will, doing what we are supposed to be doing, right now. And the only way to see our hopes and dreams come alive, is to continue to walk in His will and trust Him in all that we do.

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
In all your way acknowledge Him,
And he will make your paths straight."

Proverbs 3:5-6

Too many times we try to make sense of where our life is at the present moment. When all it comes down to is as long as we have peace about whatever it is we are doing, then we ARE in the will of God and He will provide a path if we acknowledge that He is the creator of our future, past and present. As long as we continue to seek His face and obey His word, He has promised us a wonderful future full of peace and hope.

My challenge to you:

"Fix your eyes not what is seen, but what is unseen.
For what we see is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal."
2 Corinthians 4:18

We face this challenge whether life is peaceful and prosperous or whether life is filled with multiple trials and hardships.  The tendency is to fix our eyes on what is seen.  Whether life is going well or is very hard we need to always remember “this too will pass.”

Week(s) in Review

Okay, I'm bound and determined to get a post done before the week is over again. My posts are starting to become the previous "week in review" since I can't ever find enough time to catch up during the week itself. But, better late than never, right?

Last week...let's see if my brain can go back that far....

Monday, I got the wonderful idea to break open the Bride and Groom cookbook again. We haven't been cooking at home as often as we would like or should I say, as often as we SHOULD. But we haven't had spaghetti in a long time so I thought I would look up a recipe to make homemade sauce. And, of course, the B&G cookbook didn't let me down..it actually had TWO different spaghetti sauce recipes but I opted for the easier one. (Maybe later when life isn't so crazy!)

I didn't take pictures of the sauce (that seemed a little boring) but it was AMAZING! The B&G cookbook continues its streak of awesome and yummy recipes that will most defiantely get cooked again.

But I didn't stop there! When we first got the cookbook, I was quickly flipping through the pages and Wes stopped me on the Carrot Cake recipe. He immediately said, "Oh, we HAVE to try this one sometime!".

Wes LOVES carrot cake and always talks about the amazing carrot cake he had in New York City a few years ago. That no other carrot cake has been able to stack up to that one.

So, feeling in the mood for a little bit of a challenge, I decide to make the carrot cake.

Side Note: I have NO desire to eat carrot cake. Carrots in a dessert just doesn't sound good at all and it has coconut in it which is definately not something I enjoy. BUT, I am wanting to make this cake anyway for my wonderful husband who I know will be SO excited to see what I have made him. If that isn't a picture of TRUE love, I don't know what is. :)

Back to the cake...I don't really think I read the recipe well enough to realize the undertaking I had gotten myself into.

As I am gathering all my ingredients together and start reading the recipe for the first few steps, I come to a halt. It calls for a mixer. I know, I know..how do you make a cake without a mixer? I should have known, right? I guess I was being naive and thought hand mixing would do just fine.

Luckily, we did get a very nice mixer from the hostesses at one of our wedding showers. Time to break it in!

After digging the mixer out behind a pile of wedding gifts stored away (the ones we don't have room for), I could finally start.

I captured the carrot cake undertaking all with pictures. So here we go...

And it begins!!

This was most definately a step I did not read close enough. I had to grate 1 1/2 CUPS of carrot! No mistake there, CUPS! This took forever and made me really question, "Why am I doing this again?". Oh that's right, so make my husband happy. :)

Ridiculous! (But worth it!)

The rest of the ingredients ready to go in. Carrot puree (baby food), grated carrots and coconut.

Mixer is ready to go!

Looks like baby food for SURE now! haha

Poor into two pans and into the oven they go!

And this was the mess I had to deal with after it was all done. I love cooking but I HATE the cleaing up part. I need a maid to just clean up my dishes for me. :) I might cook more often!

Ready to ice the cake! Gotta find the right tool!

Didn't take pictures of the icing being made but it was just cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar and vanilla extract. Yum!!

Icing this cake look forever!

Finished product with a slice cut out for Wes! There is a layer of icing inbetween the two cake layers but it's hard to see here.

Wes enjoying his cake. Must be good, doesn't look like there is much left on that plate!

And the verdict is...B&G wins again!! Wes said this cake was just as good as the cake in NYC. YES!!

This was a great night. Good dinner and good desert. LOVE spending these relaxing nights with my husband.

However, the bigger part of my week happened Tuesday night into Wednesday.

We did get yet another snow storm come through Wednesday. Really Oklahoma? This one wasn't near as bad as the previous but it was enough to cancel clinicals again. I was somewhat glad though because I ended up driving to Lawton unexpectedly, in the snow.

Tuesday night I got a Facebook message from my mom telling me that my/our Jack Russel Terrier, Beamer, was doing very good at all. My parents had taken him to the vet that evening and he was running a 105 fever, throwing up, and very, very lethargic (for him). Not good in a dog.

The vet gave him a few shots, sent them home with antibiotics, said to continue to check his temperature and told them to call in the morning with an update.

So..Wednesday morning. Fever was down to 100 but was unable to hold down the antibiotic at all. The vet said to bring him in for blood work. (Which I thought should have been done the day before, but I'm no vet either)

Blood work comes back. Complete kidney AND liver failure. His numbers were so high the machine couldn't even read it. All the values were "greater than..." on both organ functioning.

Like I said...not good.

My mom called and we both immediately began crying so hard. Wondering why a completely healthy, 7 year old terrier all of a sudden is at death's door?? What happened?!

Now remember when the snow started? Yup. I made the decision to get in the car and make the drive to Lawton to see Beamer. I wasn't sure what was going to happen but I had a feeling it wasn't going to be good.

Here's the story with Beamer: I bought Beamer as a puppy my sophomore year of college over the summer. Complete impulse buy. Never intended on walking out of that pet store with a dog but I did. When I brought him home my mom completely flipped out. I don't think I have EVER seen her THAT mad at me before. I really debated on whether I should just take the dog back.

Side Note: My dad was also in the hospital at the time too. Probably wasn't a good thing to add to the already stressful situation you think? Yeah...I don't think I WAS thinking.

Yes she was upset because my dad was sick in the hospital and I have no business having a dog. But there's more to it. I was going to be moving into an apartment when school started back up. An apartment that did NOT allow pets. Ha. But me being the naive 19 year old I was..I didn't think that would matter.

Right? Wrong.

Long story short, my parents refused to let me take Beamer to the apartment in August and there he stayed. So even though he technically has been with my parents way longer than he was ever with me, I still consider him my dog and love him to death. Not to mention my parents are extremely attached thus being the reason I never chose to have him come live with me after college. He is a truly unique dog and he definitely could never be replaced.

This was a huge blow to the family to have to hear this news.

The vet basically gave him a 50/50 chance. Possibly less than that with both kidney and liver being so badly affected. They wanted to get him started on IV fluids immediately, keep him overnight and redraw blood work in the morning to see where we stand.

I wasn't going to wait until the morning to see him. If he didn't make it through the night, I wanted to be there.

So off I go in the snow. The roads really weren't all that bad. Not great but good enough to get me there safely.

Once I got to Lawton, my mom and I go up to the vet to see Beamer.

I was so scared as to what I would see. I knew that all it would take was one look at him to know if he was going to be okay.

And this is what I saw...

Head was up, eyes alert, on his feet and tag wagging.

Thank you God.

My mom had said that just that morning he could barely lift his head, tail was down and couldn't even stand up.

An improvement already.

The vet came in and also gave us good news that Beamer completely saturated his towel with urine just before we got there. Any of you in the medical field know that, dog or human, urine output when there is kidney failure is a GREAT sign.

He explained the blood work to me, reinstating that it didn't look good. But the blood work in the morning would really tell us if he will be okay. If blood work goes up, we are in trouble. If it stays the same or goes down, we may have some hope.

I dreamt all night that night about getting that call about his blood work results. I even had actual numbers in my head from my dream of what they would be. Needless to say, I was so worried. I anxiously waited by the phone at 7:30 AM for the phone call.

Here were his results just ONE day later:

Kidney FX: Creatinine (Normal 0.5-1.8) 2/9: >6.0 <--VERY High
                                                              2/10: 0.6 <--NORMAL!!

                   BUN        (Normal 7-27)    2/9: 72 <---VERY High
                                                             2/10: 17 <---NORMAL!!

Liver FX: AST (Normal 10-100) 2/9: >1000 <---VERY High
                                                   2/10: 812 <--Still abnormal but WAY less

                ALT (Normal 12-23)  2/9: >2000 <--VERY High
                                                   2/10: >2000 <---Still High

Let me explain that: Beamer's kidney function was now COMPLETELY NORMAL. Not just lower but NORMAL!

Liver function still was high but the vet said it was going to just take time. The kidney functioning was most concerning long term.

Wow. I was in shock. God is SO good!!

Beamer most definitely had the Lord watching over him every step of the way.

He stayed one more night at the vet on continuous IV fluids and got to go home Friday afternoon.

So what exactly was it that wreaked havoc over Beamer's system? Most likely a really bad infection that was in his GI tract and then somehow got into his bloodstream. We are blaming him eating cat poop. Haha Sounds funny but really makes the most sense. Dogs think it's good for them because it tastes so good (gross!) and look where it got him.

Crazy though. What a whirlwind of emotions. SO glad all that is over and Beamer is doing better. He did have to go back to the vet this week because his fever came back. But blood work was still all within normals limits so they changed his antibiotic and gave him something different for his liver.

It's amazing how much our dogs really do become one of the family. It's when something like this happens that you really realize how much you would miss them not being here. That their personality and company are so valuable and irreplaceable.

That being said, now it's time for THIS weeks important update.

Valentine's Day:  Wes and I bought a new puppy!!

Wes didn't have this planned, it just so happened to work itself out ON Valentine's Day. But who could say no to their wife on Valentine's Day right? :)

She is a 6 week old Yorkie. ADORABLE! Meet Lexi!

So far she has been great. I'm not going to say she hasn't peed and pooped many times in the house but she has also gone to the bathroom outside plenty of times too, on her own. So I'm hoping this is a good start and potty training won't be too bad.

We have decided to crate train her and I am already loving it. She sleeps all night now without going to the bathroom in her crate. She stays in the crate all day, if we are gone, and no accidents. Pretty impressive!

I hope getting her used to the crate when she is this young will prove to be a good thing. She is chewing on everything though. She has three different chew toys but they don't always keep her attention as much as cords and blankets. I'm pretty sure she already understands the word "No!" but who's to really know when they are this young?

I'm SO excited to have her though! I have been talking about wanting a puppy since the wedding so I finally got Wes convinced that we do in fact need a pet to nurture. :) Better that than a baby right? I think so! No babies for us yet.

Okay this post is long enough. I hope it kept you all interested enough to read all the way to that end. I will leave you with this saying I noticed after Beamer's health scare. It is from the front of my Philosophy "Hope in a Jar" moisturizer (inspiration comes in the weirdest places!):

"Where there is hope there can be faith, where there is faith miracles can occur."
